Take the wheel and head into Punta Cana’s back country. From the ranch in Macao you’ll drive your own quad or buggy along private trails – mud, open track, and countryside most visitors never see from a resort.

Midway you’ll stop at Domitai Park, where a private cenote cave called Cueva Chiquita opens into cool, clear water. Dry off over a tasting of organic Dominican coffee, chocolate, tea and mamajuana, all made the traditional way, then take some free time in a local village before the ride back.

  • Closed-toe shoes are recommended – but if you’d rather not ruin a pair, sandals work fine. Either way, expect to come back muddy.
  • A bandana is worth having to keep the dust off your face; if you forget one, you can pick one up at the base
  • A little cash, for photos or souvenirs in the village
  • You won’t need your passport or ID, so leave your documents safely at the hotel.
