The catamaran sails along the Punta Cana coastline for about four hours, with an open bar running throughout – rum, beer and soft drinks – and round-trip hotel transfer from Bavaro and Punta Cana included.

The stop is a Caribbean coral reef. Snorkeling equipment is provided, and a bilingual guide gets in the water with you. Life jackets are available for non-swimmers.

Departures run in the morning and the afternoon, and the trip is rated easy. The morning departure is open to families, couples, solo travelers, honeymooners and other guests; the atmosphere is generally more relaxed and family-friendly, but it is not a family-only trip. The afternoon departure is livelier and higher-energy, and it is adults only (18+). Lunch is not included – you are back at your resort in time to dine there. Bring reef-safe sunscreen: chemical sunscreens are not allowed on the reef.

Because it is rated easy, the morning departure is the boat trip that tends to work for mixed groups – grandparents, small children and confident swimmers on the same deck. Non-swimmers are genuinely catered for: life jackets are available, the guide is in the water with the group, and nobody is obliged to get in at all.

The choice worth making before you book is morning or afternoon – and if anyone in your group is under 18, it is the morning. A morning departure leaves the rest of the day free at the resort; an afternoon one lets you have a slow start and still be back for dinner. Either way you are back in time to eat there, so plan the rest of the day around one meal out, not two.
